Garnier Vineyards located at Mayerdale was planted in 2002. The site is located on the western end of the property and overlooks the Columbia River. The soil is sandy with a light clay content. The vineyard's proximity to the river and its low elevation are considered an advantage as it protects the plants from frost damage during the winter and spring. This site provides added heat-units throughout the growing season.
Currently these grapes have been sold to other wineries. The first harvest was in 2003, and a small portion of the crop was retained to produce a Syrah/Pinot Noir blended wine for " home use only". In 2004 portions of the Merlot & Syrah varietals were retained to produce a blended wine that was bottled in the fall of 2005. We are in the process of getting the licesnse to bottle and sell wine.
The varietals planted are:
Chardonnay
Pinot Noir
Sauvignon Blanc
Merlot
Syrah
Grenache
